Our Classroom Playlist

I use music in my class for all sorts of reasons. One of the main ones is to serve as an audible background for collaborative learning. I tell the students that it’s our Starbucks cafe music, not meant to distract us or be noticed, just to be enjoyed and to help us think and be collaborative. 1. I love this list. I wonder if this could be a really cool meme among educators. My list is somewhat similar, though I also have a few Death Cab for Cutie songs, a Ray LaMontagne song and some instrumental music of Sufjan Stevens.

  2. I teach music so there’s always something, but I tend to go for songs I’d like as a soundtrack for my life – motivating and inspirational. Wavin’ Flag (2010 World Cup theme) is a big one and Send Me On My Way by Rusted Root, to name a few. Love Yo-Yo Ma’s Bach cello suites for writing and Vince Guaraldi or other jazz for background noise.
